RUN WITH SENSE
Life is a race where we all strive by all means to be the best. The most interesting fact is that as we run, we are usually faced with hurdles at every stage of our lives. Here comes the problem. Sometimes we are too focus on life journey that we fail to appreciate the beauty of life itself.
Most times we derail from the right track. We start to compete with other people whose destinations are different from ours. After pursuing them for a very long time, we get to realize that they are even going somewhere else. What a pity!
1. Know Your Purpose: There are millions of bestselling books that have been written by erudite authors on “Discovering your purpose”. In addendum to what you’ve read or heard about this important topic, I want to use this medium to tell you that the best day of your life is actually the day you discover your purpose. But the problem here is “How do I know my Purpose?” By God’s grace, I was privilege to get an insight on Purpose around December 2017 and I got to know that “Purpose is PEACE”. What is that thing that you do that overwhelms you with peace and ignites the joy inside of you. I mean that thing you do that makes you smile with reckless abandon. By the time you are able to identify what gives you peace, then you are on the path to discovering your purpose. Most importantly, always ask the Holy Spirit to direct your path. Jeremiah 1:5 says that “before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you.”
2. Know your Race: As our faces are different, so is our purpose. Your purpose may be way different from mine. There are different kind of race. If your race is 100m, stick to your track. Don’t get distracted because you see your friend running a Marathon. The Olympic gold medal for 100m is the same as that for relay. There is actually no difference, Gold medal is Gold metal. The difference here is just the taste. So you see, the most important thing is finishing excellently and at the right time. What I’m trying to enact here is that sometimes as individuals, we end up getting into competitions we have no business involving ourselves with In the first place. Even if you succeed, you are likely not going to get that satisfaction because that is not your race. So, ask the lord today to reveal his purpose for your life.
3. Know your Competitors: By the time you are able to identify your race. What you need to do is to understand the rudiments of the race. You become curious by asking pertinent questions. Who is the current champion in this category, what does he do differently, what can I do differently? This why it is important to study your race whether by divine inspiration, reading books, getting a mentor, etc. It is quite unfortunate that some of us even fail to read up to 5 books per year on topics related to our race. Personal development is pivotal for us to emerge Champions.
4. Start: The next step is to actually start running. I think this is the biggest challenge because we are usually scared to take up new task that are challenging. It is actually not our fault, it is inborne. My admonition for you is that you should just start. I just had a one-line ideal on my mind. But when I began typing this, it was just as if I was being told what to type. Ideals just began flowing in and the whole thing just became very exciting. Starting alone is getting the job half done. When you start, do not pay much attention to mistakes because you’d probably make a bunch of them. Mistakes are inevitable and that is the reason why even Wole Soyinka would still need to proof read his work before sending to his publisher. So, you see nobody is above mistakes. Life is jeje. You will be amazed with the result you will achieve by just taking the bold step of starting. What is that ideal that the Lord has placed in your heart? START TODAY!
5. The Perfect Acquaintance: Never be incline on being friends with everybody. All you need is “the perfect acquaintance”. You can call these persons true friends. They are the people that actually care about you and would like for you to succeed. These set of persons are always there to give you feedback. When you engage on a project, they are the people that will take time to review your work. For example, if you are a writer and you send a particular write up to about 50 persons on your contact. Only a few percentage of the recipients would painstakingly go through your work. The other group of persons would just ignore or some would be kind enough to say “nice job” when they did not read it. Always pray to God for helpers of destiny because “who like you for this life go like you.” Never force yourself on anybody. Common, you’re too special for that. When God bring these persons close to you, make sure you hold them tight.
6. Distractions: We are now living in an era where there are distractions left and right. People no longer value knowledge, we rather spend our time on social Medias and engaging ourselves in silly arguments. No wonder it is believed that “if you want to hide something from a black man, put it in a book”. Social media impairs creativity. We are now in a dispensation when you will rarely see an undergraduate read newspapers, books, etc. Nigerian students study only for the purpose of acing an exam. After exam, it’s movies. Unfortunately, we do not even harness the resources accrue to the internet. As you go through the journey of life, avoid distractions as much as you can. Get yourself into doing things that will be beneficial. #Positivevibes.
7. Eat and Exercise: Never be too busy to exercise and to eat right because without your health you cannot run your race. Always avoid taking Junky foods. Substitute carbonated beverages for fruits. The career of many athletes were jeopardize because their health dwindled. Also, we should always pray for God’s protection and good health.
8. Laugh: Laughter is the universal medicine for any ailment. I don’t know why some people are just so serious. My Sister! No be only you get problem o. If “Ikorodu bois” videos cannot make you laugh, you are suffering from Problemania sadiosis. Frowning your face is not in any way a fast track to success. Abeg smile jare, after all life is too short to be too serious.
